Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is ComboBet? A: ComboBet is a wager or contest that combines actual results and wager elements from multiple games in order to determine a single outcome. Bettors (or contestants) choose teams from multiple games, combine their results, and compare the results from the teams chosen to the teams not chosen.
Q: Can you give me some more examples of a ComboBet? A: Sure. We'll use the following data in our illustrations.
Games and Spread Dallas -7 Oakland New York -4 Pittsburgh Miami -10.5 Buffalo
Games and Totals Dallas/Oakland 40 New York/Pittsburgh 33 Miami/Buffalo 37
Game Results Dallas 20 Oakland 17 New York 24 Pittsburgh 13 Buffalo 31 Miami 28
Point Spread Example #1 A bettor can pick any combination of one team per game, from a minimum of two games. For example, if a bettor chose Dallas and New York, this would be considered a “two-team ComboBet.” Since Dallas is favored by 7 points and New York is favored by 4 points, the Dallas/New York ComboBet would have a combined point spread (“ComboSpread”) of -11 points. You simply add the individual point spreads together (Dallas -7 plus New York –4). So, continuing with our example, our bettor needs the total points scored by Dallas plus the total points scored by New York to be more than 11 points higher than the total points scored by Oakland plus the total points scored by Pittsburgh. Based on the Actual Results, Dallas scored 20 points, and New York scored 24 points, for a total of 44 points. Their opponents, Oakland and Pittsburgh scored a total of 30 points. So, in this example a bettor who bet a “two-team ComboBet” of Dallas/New York would have won. Conversely, had the bettor chose a “two-team ComboBet” of Oakland/Pittsburgh, he would have lost. (Note that had the bettor chosen a straight bet of just Dallas, he would have lost his bet; however, when combined with New York for a ComboBet, the bettor won).
Point Spread Example #2 Let’s look at another example. This time a bettor wants to pick teams from three games. So, he chooses Oakland, New York, and Buffalo. By adding the individual point spreads, we have a ComboSpread of +13.5 points (Oakland +7 plus New York –4 plus Buffalo +10.5). So the bettor now has a “three-team ComboBet” of Oakland/NewYork/Buffalo, and is now receiving +13.5 points. Based on the Actual Results, the total points scored by Oakland, New York, and Buffalo are 72. Their opponents, Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Miami combined to score a total of 61 points. So, in this example, a bettor who chose a “three-team ComboBet” of Oakland/NewYork/Buffalo would have won. Conversely, had the bettor chose a “three-team ComboBet” of Dallas/Pittsburgh/Miami, he would have lost.
Totals (Over/Unders) Example #1 ComboBets can also be made for totals (over/unders). For example, a bettor may pick the under or an over for a “two-game ComboBet” involving the Dallas/Oakland game and the Miami/Buffalo game. The “new” ComboTotal number is now 77 points (40 plus 37). Based on the Actual Results the combined total points scored in both games were 96. So, a bettor who chose the under ComboBet would lose, and a bettor who chose the over ComboBet would win. Note that individually the Dallas/Oakland game resulted in an “under” while the Miami/Buffalo game resulted in an “over.” For a ComboBet, the combined games resulted in an “over.”
Q: What spreads (or point totals) does ComboBet use? A: ComboBet always uses the exact same point spreads (or totals) that are posted for individual games. ComboBet then adds those point spreads (or totals) together, to form one single ComboSpread (or ComboTotal).
Q: How many games can I pick for a ComboBet? A: Generally speaking, you can pick as many games as you want.
Q: Can I pick a combination of college teams and professional teams? A: No. At this time, ComboBets are not available for a mix of college and professional games. ComboBets must be made with either all college games or all professional games.
Q: How does ComboBet differ from a Teaser bet? A: Basically, a Teaser allows bettors to manipulate points (or totals) while a ComboBet allows bettors to combine points (or totals) of teams from different games.
Q: Can I use ComboBet for all sports? A: ComboBet can be used for all team sports. It is particularly exciting when used for professional and college football and basketball. Other sports are being considered.
Q: Can I choose any games I want when placing a ComboBet, or am I restricted from choosing among a limited selection of games? A: Depending on house rules, you can pick from any games you want --- as long as those games have individual spreads (or totals) posted. The number of games and the selection of games are up to you.
Q: What is a ComboSpread? A: A ComboSpread is derived from picking multiple teams from different games and combining (adding) their respective point spreads together.
Q: What is a ComboTotal? A: A ComboTotal is the sum of the Over/Under Totals for each individual game selected for a ComboBet.
